Stage Fright
I can't,
says the mind.
It's so familiar,
here on the inside.
Come on,
says the heart.
Don't you think it's time,
for a brand new start?
I won't,
says the mind.
I'd rather just linger here.
You go, I'll stay behind.
That doesn't work,
says the heart.
We go together,
or we fall apart.
Not yet,
says the mind.
I don't want to leap yet,
afraid of what I'll find.
I get it,
says the heart.
When in the past,
you've become so scarred.
But this ain't no way of living,
and I think you know it well.
So maybe it's time to get up,
because all you do is dwell.
There will never be a time when,
you end up feeling secure.
I don't know how much longer,
we can both physically endure.
I'll be here to guide you,
I've always got your back.
All you need is just one step,
and before you know it,
you'll be running on that track.
